BPA Free Pacifiers and Teethers Cheat Sheet | Safe Mama
I've gotten a couple of emails from parents asking about safe pacifiers and teethers. With all the news surrounding Bisphenol-a in bottles and sippy cups, parents are now wondering what else they might need to modify in their babies routine to avoid those plastics. Z Recommends did an article on pacifiers last August (have I mentioned lately how much I adore the folks at Z Recommends? Please visit their site%u2026 they rule.), so I figured a new cheat sheet was in order. Once a parent learns about potential hazards its tough to know what to buy and what to avoid. I've said myself more than once "Can't someone just tell me what to buy?".. and I am pretty sure I am not the only busy parent who's uttered that phrase.

September 11, 1996 Internet World LOS ANGELES--AT&T (T) said today it will begin testing the Mondex smart card scheme for Internet payments of $10 or less.
The announcement with Mondex, which has emerged as a leader for smart card payments since MasterCard bought a controlling interest in the company last year, was the most significant of several AT&T Internet commerce announcements today at the Internet World trade show.
"Transaction costs make low-value Internet sales too expensive for merchants to accept using traditional payments methods like credit cards," said Keith Kendrick, an AT&T senior vice president for smart payments. "While Mondex also works for large transactions, it makes sales as low as a few cents commercially viable for merchants."
AT&T's Mondex announcement follows news yesterday that Digital Equipment (DEC), plans to bring payments of $5 to less than a penny to the Internet in its Millicent program.

How they make US feel........
Once I was helping cooridinate a big conference at IBM. I had lots of chores and one of them was to make name cards for the tables.
There were several late comers and one of them was a hispanic lady and one of them was a black lady. Even though several of the others were late as well as Olivia Rodriquez and Effie Hornbeck they were the only ones my boss had me hand write the names instead of print them out on the printer....... ASIF they were less than all the white men and women. hmmmmmmmmmm (It was very obvious and I wasn't the only one that noticed. The two I mentioned above were the only hand written names in the conference which had about 250 people.)
It's VERY funny how Big Business reveals their prejudices but you can bet that the two women mentioned above noticed.

Narcissism full article
Instructions
Step 1
Narcissism is a personality disorder. It stems from childhood abuse. When children decide that the world, and the people in it, are bad and that they are good, they have a skewed vision of life. They see the whole world as revolving around them. They see others as objects to gratify their needs. They lack compassion for others. In general they are incapable of maintaining a healthy relationship because they have to be in control all of the time.
Often, narcissists are very charming in order to seduce people into liking them. Their ability to seduce people is amazing. They appear confident and therefore exciting. They want you to fall in love and bond with them so they can finally emerge as their true selves without being abandoned.
If you keep your eyes open, you can detect a narcissist's need for control and his or her self-centeredness. If you make a mistake they will be critical and unsympathetic. They will hold you to a high standard and exhibit disdain for what they consider weakness or vulnerability.
Step 2
Both men and women are narcissists. When it comes to relationships, they usually fear engulfment and they:
⋅ Fear losing their identity.
⋅ Fear dependency and avoid bonding.
⋅ Create rigid personality boundaries (won't let people in).
⋅ Are sensitive to everything that leads to bonding.
⋅ Lose interest in sex that leads to bonding.
⋅ Seduce and withhold to avoid bonding.
⋅ Minimize feelings that lead to bonding.
⋅ Get nervous when things go well or bonding occurs.
⋅ Pick fights and create uproars to avoid bonding.
⋅ Want more space or have to run.
⋅ Can't make a commitment.
⋅ Are indifferent to others.
⋅ Feel entitled to be taken care of their way.
⋅ Won't put up with discomfort.
⋅ Have complete control of the schedule.
⋅ Say to their partner "Just stay put while I come and go."
Step 3
Narcissists can be big trouble. O.J. Simpson was a narcissist. He had affairs and did want he wanted until Nicole divorced him and then he went nuts. While it may seem that narcissists are only men, this is not true. Many women narcissists seduce codependent men. There is really no difference between male and female narcissists. Female narcissists used to be called black widow spiders. The male narcissist is Don Juan or a Casanova. Women can also be as physically abusive as men. The most common toxic relationship is between the codependent and the narcissist. Opposites attract and nice people are vulnerable to charming narcissists. Be careful and try to see through the charm.

Narcissism, authoritarianism and the black community
EXCERPT:
Abstract:
Many African Americans prefer to seek help from their clergy rather than mental health professionals, regardless of the type or severity of the problem. Therefore, clergy play a big role in the mental and spiritual health of their congregants. Narcissism and authoritarianism may interfere with that role. The purpose of this study was to add to the scant research on these personality traits among African American seminarians. This investigation addressed the relationship between narcissism and authoritarianism, and differences by seminarians' gender, year of study, and religious vocation. The psychoanalytic theories of Kohut and Adorno provided the framework for this study. Seminarians ( N = 180) completed the Narcissistic Personality Inventory and Authoritarian Scale. A correlational cross-sectional survey study was used to examine these relationships. Narcissism was found to be significantly correlated with authoritarianism. MANOVAs yielded a significant gender difference in authoritarianism but not narcissism, and no significant difference in either trait by year of study or religious vocation. Results indicate a need for more rigorous study to further delineate these two personality traits, and to understand how they manifest differently in African Americans and in women vs. men. This study also implies a need for pre-screening of prospective seminarians, for providing psychological services geared to the clergy, and for making changes in seminary curricula. These recommendations can influence social change by improving the odds that African American clergy will be better positioned to effectively meet the needs of their churches and greater community.

Prevalence rates of mental illness
Mental illness prevalence rates for African Americans in community-based studies are generally reported to be similar to rates in the white population (Sue & Chu 2003; Kessler et al., 1996), and in fact one study reports that rates for major depression are lower than in the general population (Brown DR et al., 1995). Yet, African Americans are frequently found among the most vulnerable population sub-groups: comprising 40% of the homeless, 50% of prisoners, and 45% of children in the foster care system. They are also the most frequent victims of serious violent crime (Surgeon General's Report, 1999) and may have been excluded from counts of people with mental illness (Williams & Jackson, 2000).

Hillary Clinton admits Misanthropy in letters
EXCERPTs:
1) “Can you be a misanthrope and still love or enjoy some individuals?” Ms. Rodham wrote in an April 1967 letter. “How about a compassionate misanthrope?”
2) In other notes, she speaks of her own despair; in one, written in the winter of her sophomore year, she describes a “February depression.” She catalogs a long, paralyzed morning spent in bed, skipping classes, hating herself. “Random thinking usually becomes a process of self-analysis with my ego coming out on the short end,” she writes.
Another recurring theme of Ms. Rodham’s musings is the familiar late-adolescent impulse not to grow up. “Such a drag,” she says, invoking the Rolling Stones, a rare instance of her referring to pop culture.
Her letters at times betray a kind of innocent narcissism over “my lost youth,” as she described it in a letter shortly after her 19th birthday. She wrote of being a little girl and believing that she was the only person in the universe. She had a sense that if she turned around quickly, “everyone else would disappear.

Clinton Apologizes for Diallo Comment
NEW YORK (AP) -- Hillary Rodham Clinton apologized for calling the police shooting of unarmed immigrant Amadou Diallo a ``murder.''
``I misspoke,'' she said on WNBC-TV's ``News Forum,'' which aired Sunday. ``That was just a misstatement on my part.''
Clinton had used the word on Martin Luther King Day, when she noted that Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., had given ``a speech after the tragic murder of Mr. Diallo in which he said that what every community, but particularly the African-American community, wants is to be respected and protected.''
The four officers on trial in the shooting of Diallo have pleaded innocent to charges of second-degree murder.
When their trial began two weeks ago, a group of police officers and others held a news conference saying the first lady had ``prejudged the officers'' and ``poisoned the jury pool.''
Clinton said on Sunday's show that whether the death was a case of murder was ``what the jury should decide.''

EXCERPT:
Misanthropy is a generalized dislike, distrust, disgust, contempt and hatred of the human species, human nature, or society. A misanthrope is someone who holds those views and feelings. The word's origin is from Greek words μῖσος (misos, "hatred") and ἄνθρωπος (anthrōpos, "man, human being"). It can be considered a form of speciesism or a discrimination based on species.
Misanthropy and Hillary Clinton
EXCERPT:
Hillary Clinton: The tortured teen
The former first lady's image as a political automaton has been shaken by the release of letters written when she was an emotional adolescent
By Stephen Foley
Hillary Clinton as a self-doubting misanthrope, prone to bouts of withdrawal and even depression? This stuff isn't in the script.
The former first lady's progress back towards the White House, this time on her own ticket, is one of the most carefully choreographed, cautious and calculated in modern campaigning. She herself is a study in on-message moderation, with answers so carefully scripted for focus groups that she has been damned as a political automaton.
Which is why the publication over the weekend of details of dozens of intimate letters written by the young Hillary Rodham to a high school friend has stirred up so much interest, raising anew the debates over how her political ambitions were formed and questions from her enemies about whether she is fit to lead the country.
At the very least, they are a fascinating insight into the emotional turbulence that once lay below the surface of the young student at Wellesley College, Massachusetts, who grew into one of the most scrutinised and yet ultimately inscrutable women at the centre of power in the US.
"Sunday was lethargic from the beginning as I wallowed in a morass of general and specific dislike and pity for most people but me especially," the 19-year-old Hillary Rodham reported in a letter postmarked 3 October, 1967.
And in another missive that year, she had pondered her own developing personality: "Since Xmas vacation, I've gone through three-and-a-half metamorphoses and am beginning to feel as though there is a smorgasbord of personalities spread before me. So far, I've used alienated academic, involved pseudo-hippie, educational and social reformer and one-half of withdrawn simplicity.
"Can you be a misanthrope and still love or enjoy some individuals? How about a compassionate misanthrope?"
Nircissism from a position of control
EXCERPT:
Are you willing to go through life, endeavoring to be an ideal that is intrinsically utopia?
Are you willing to support an individual so as to make him stay with you?
What if you have a baby and your body changes?
Could you handle the dereliction?
What if you lose your job?
What will you do to keep him around, now that you don’t have any money to support him?
What if he meets someone else who is far grandeur than you are?
Last but not least, can you live with the abuse and uncertainty? There isn’t any guarantee that the narcissist or sociopath will stay. They get bored easily and life is centrally about excitement, manipulation and the thrill of getting away with it. Move on to a next unsuspecting victim and the process starts all over again. They do not have genuine love for you. What they are feeling is not sincere. It is not true. You relationship is a lie, and artifice. A grand orchestration and a union that is as strong as its weakest link. If money is the union’s sustenance then money will lead to its breakdown. Just as if you are in love with someone, you remain with him, when you are not in love anymore you want to be as far away from him as possible. That is exactly how the narcissist will regard you, when you cannot supply his demands, he will leave you.
Garafalo -'Rush Limbaugh is a self-loathing narcissist
Several EXCERPTs:
Janeane Garafolo, in rare form, psychoanalyzes Rush Limbaugh on MSNBC’s “Countdown” with Keith Olbermann.
A conservative male Republican governor, Mark Sanford, has basically called comedian Rush Limbaugh an idiot. Comedian is more interested in finding out why woman don‘t like him. Quoting him, “I own the men. What must I do now to own the women?”....................
Public Policy poll found that 56 percent of men held a favorable view of Limbaugh, but only 37 percent of women feel that way. That‘s one of the largest gender gaps encountered by that polling organization in the past year. So Limbaugh seized on the opportunity. “This takes us to the age old question, what do women want? Not even Freud was ultimately able to answer that question,” he said, “so we will have a female summit to ascertain what I must do to attract women.” Save your jokes.
As for Governor Sanford, who recently said, quote, anybody who wants him, meaning President Obama, to fail is an idiot. Limbaugh acknowledged this was directed at him, since he repeatedly wishes aloud for the president‘s failure. Comedian says that Governor Sanford actually agrees with him. He just can‘t admit it in those words.
Joining me now to revel in the fun is comedienne, actress and activist Janeane Garofalo. It‘s good to see you.
JANEANE GAROFALO, POLITICAL ACTIVIST: Thank you. Thank you for having me.
GAROFALO: I want to say a couple things first; 37 percent is a shockingly high percentage of…I‘m shocked by that. Secondly, this transcends gender. He is an unappealing person. The problems with Rush Limbaugh, as we were discussing during the break, it would take a neuro-scientist and a behavioral psychologist to sort that out. Failing that, let‘s you and I discuss.
He is a narcissist who also struggles with self-loathing. That is clear. That is his prime maneuver. That‘s the issue. He pretends it is politics. But there is something very, very wrong with Rush Limbaugh........
GAROFALO: She dated him. So either she suffers from Stockholm Syndrome, like Michael Steele, the black guy in the Republican party who suffers from Stockholm Syndrome, which means you try to curry favor with the oppressor.
GAROFALO: Yes. Any female or person of color in the Republican party is struggling with Stockholm Syndrome...............
GAROFALO: Well, if Rush were open to that kind of criticism, which I think he likes…like I said, he is a narcissist. He enjoys his name being bandied about, no matter what context. Rush Limbaugh, of course, is an idiot........
GAROFALO: He is a misanthrope, right? He is a hater of humanity and also a hater of himself...............
GAROFALO: It is authoritarian message and people that follow the authoritarian message. It is the unrestrained id. It is whatever is wrong with us. It is whatever the flaws in human being. I‘m a narcissist that suffers with self-loathing. But I prefer to channel my issues into a much more positive direction.
So I do identify with Rush on the level of narcissism and self-loathing combined. But I‘m a far better person than he is. I don‘t say that with arrogance. I say that because it is fact, scientific fact.
OLBERMANN: Thank goodness it is. Janeane Garofalo, political activist, currently of “24.” Thanks, Janeane.
GAROFALO: Thank you for having me.
OLBERMANN: Thanks for being a better person.
Narcissists
EXCERPT:
On the one hand, the narcissist accepts the authority of his introjected (internalised) critics and disregards the fact that they hate him and wish him dead. He sacrifices his life to them, hoping that his successes and accomplishments (real or perceived) will ameliorate their rage.
On the other hand, he confronts these very gods with proofs of their fallibility. "You claim that I am worthless and incapable" – he cries – "Well, guess what? You are dead wrong! Look how famous I am, look how rich, how revered, and accomplished!"
But then much rehearsed self-doubt sets in and the narcissist feels yet again compelled to falsify the claims of his trenchant and indefatigable detractors by conquering another woman, giving one more interview, taking over yet another firm, making an extra million, or getting re-elected one more time.

EXCERPT:
GAINING UNDERSTANDING OF THE ELITE
Americans need to clearly understand how international bankers and industrialists have a plan for New World Order, whether the average person believes it or not. These people run the U.S. Government from the top. It seems quite apparent that this government is willing to kill good people like Pat Tillman.
The destruction of American sovereignty must be placed at the forefront of all people's minds. It's time to stop watching as the United States police state (which was built through the CFR & other elite groups) is used to bring in a New World Order.
Stanley A. McChrystal member of CFR
EXCERPT:
From April 1993 to November 1994, McChrystal commanded the 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. He then commanded the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, from November 1994 to June 1996. During this time he would spur the beginnings of Modern Army Combatives by prompting a review of the existing hand-to-hand combat curricula. After a year as a senior service college fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, he moved up to command the entire 75th Ranger Regiment from June 1997 to August 1999, then spent another year as a military fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations.[5][13]
Hillary says death was murder

EXCERPT:
The Iceberg
The iceberg looks like this. On that same day, I interacted with five different automated systems like the kiosks in McDonald's:
I got money in the morning from the ATM.
I bought gas from an automated pump.
I bought groceries at BJ's (a warehouse club) using an extremely well-designed self-service check out line.
I bought some stuff for the house at Home Depot using their not-as-well-designed-as-BJ's self-service check out line.
I bought my food at McDonald's at the kiosk, as described above.
All of these systems are very easy-to-use from a customer standpoint, they are fast, and they lower the cost of doing business and should therefore lead to lower prices. All of that is good, so these automated systems will proliferate rapidly.
The problem is that these systems will also eliminate jobs in massive numbers. In fact, we are about to see a seismic shift in the American workforce. As a nation, we have no way to understand or handle the level of unemployment that we will see in our economy over the next several decades.

Narcissit or Robot
EXCERPT:
Narcissists, therefore, do not "exist". The narcissist is a loose coalition, based on a balance of terror, between a sadistic, idealised Superego and a grandiose and manipulative False Ego. These two interact only mechanically. Narcissists are Narcissistic Supply seeking androids. No robot is capable of introspection, not even with the help of mirroring.
Narcissists often think of themselves as machines (the "automata metaphor"). They say things like "I have an amazing brain" or "I am not functioning today, my efficiency is low." They measure things, constantly compare performance. They are acutely aware of time and its use. There is a meter in the narcissist's head, it ticks and tocks, a metronome of self-reproach and grandiose, unattainable, fantasies.
The narcissist likes to think about himself in terms of automata because he finds them to be aesthetically compelling in their precision, in their impartiality, in their harmonious embodiment of the abstract. Machines are so powerful and so emotionless, not prone to be hurting weaklings.
The narcissist often talks to himself in third person singular. He feels that it lends objectivity to his thoughts, making them appear to be emanating from an external source. The narcissist's self-esteem is so low that, to be trusted, he has to disguise himself, to hide himself from himself. It is the narcissist's pernicious and all-pervasive art of un-being.
Thus, the narcissist carries within him his metal constitution, his robot countenance, his superhuman knowledge, his inner timekeeper, his theory of morality and his very own divinity – himself.
Sometimes the narcissist does gain self-awareness and knowledge of his predicament - typically in the wake of a life crisis (divorce, bankruptcy, incarceration, accident, serious illness, or the death of a loved one). But, in the absence of an emotional correlate, of feelings, such merely cognitive awakening is useless. It does not gel into an insight. The dry facts alone cannot bring about any transformation, let alone healing.
Narcissists often go through "soul searching". But they do so only in order to optimize their performance, to maximize the number of sources of narcissistic supply, and to better manipulate their environment. They regard introspection as an inevitable and intellectually enjoyable maintenance chore.
The introspection of the narcissist is emotionless, akin to an inventory of his "good" and "bad" sides and without any commitment to change. It does not enhance his ability to empathize, nor does it inhibit his propensity to exploit others and discard them when their usefulness is over. It does not tamper his overpowering and raging sense of entitlement, nor does it deflate his grandiose fantasies.
The narcissist's introspection is a futile and arid exercise at bookkeeping, a soulless bureaucracy of the psyche and, in its own way, even more chilling that the alternative: a narcissist blissfully unaware of his own disorder.

Lee, Peanut and their 1st Soulmate
Lee lived in the house of Peanut. In Peanut’s house there were no visitors. Upon occasion a sales person tried to invade only to be graciously stopped midway in conversation and walked out.
The house of Peanut had walls and bricks and locks to keep out ALL. This was Peanut’s way of protecting Lee.
Lee often times longed for people but was content to have her characters surround her. After all they didn’t hurt her feelings or break her heart. They were kind and gentle and hugged her back when she needed hugs. Some laughed when squeezed, some talked and some played music when wound
up.
There were animals and people everywhere. One of Lee’s towels even squeaked when touched.
This always brought a gentle smile to Lee’s face and often times caught her off guard.
One of Peanut's favorite things was to pick flowers for the house. She knew Lee loved flowers and she loved when her face lit up in a smile. It brought her joy to give to another.
One day while outside checking out the flowers a Gray Mann ventured along. He was very handsome and resembled the prince that she had loved long long ago.
Lee was taken aback. Was she to be reminded forever of her prince? Would he always be in her heart? Would the pain endure until her death? (It was made MUCH easier when she met her second soulmate. Somehow he brought out the same side of Lee that TR had and it was glorious to have those feelings come alive again.)
The recent death of a dear friend’s wife, how would this affect Lee? Peanut knew she had to protect Lee. After all, Lee had never shown good sense when it came to men and he had touched her heartstrings before. Peanut knew he wasn’t for Lee. She had known it when it all began.
Now the struggle is on. Peanut is being very strong but the party is this week end. They aren’t attending but that in itself will bring him back, of this she is sure. (He will call.)
How did Lee get herself into these situations? She never had to go far and out of the somewhere....
a man ......
Peanut had been successful in keeping Lee secluded lately. It had been working for a while. She couldn’t afford to let her out and about, it could be dangerous.
Lee on the other hand longed to love again. The scars were thick and the callous hard but if only a pang now and again. Was it worth it?
How could she open up? Would Peanut let her? Peanut knew Lee so well and she had decided way back in their childhood that love was harsh. Love wasn’t something either of them needed.
Peanut was there when Lee defied their mother. Peanut took the hits from the belts. Peanut took the slaps in the face, Peanut took the psychological abuse so Lee could live. Even then Lee managed to do terrible things to herself. (Cutting) She would retaliate because she couldn’t stand Peanut taking the abuse.
Peanut was with their mom when she found out about the cancer and she took the news calmly. Lee on the other hand questioned it and wanted information. Once again, the abuse.
Peanut was there by the bathroom door when she heard her daddy sobbing. Lee showed up and Peanut led her away. (She had never seen her daddy cry nor had she ever heard anything that sad in her life. She knew Lee would insist on knowing and she had to get her away.)
Peanut was actually the one that ran away. She had to, Lee was going to raise a ruckus if she knew her daddy was hurting. She would insist on knowing everything.
When her daddy caught her, on her way to grandma’s house, Lee was defiant. Peanut couldn’t stop her even then. "Get in the damn truck NOW", her father shouted at her.
Their grandmother came to stay with the girls then. It was tough for a while. Thirteen year old girls are a handful to say the least but in a drama like this, it was terrible. (If only their grandmother had known. They blended so well and Peanut was quite good at it. Lee was suspicious but she didn’t really want to know so she just went on her merry way.)
Peanut and Lee coexisted during the time their mom was in San Francisco at the hospital for treatment. Peanut stood in when others were around and kept peace as best she could. Lee was in her own world and it was not a nice place to reside. This was probably when the depression first came to the surface. (It may have been there before but the severity of it was horrendous at this time.)
Lee however rebelled and wanted her father to talk to her. She wanted answers, there was no shhhhhhhhhing her.
Looking back, their dad probably didn’t know what to tell his inquisitive young woman/daughter.
Peanut remembers once when Lee slapped her mom back. It startled all three but Lee never understood and got tired of it. How does it feel? The separations were awful and altho Lee and her mom didn't get along, there was a scary sense of loss.
Lee doesn’t remember to this day if she really slapped her mom.
In the hospital after their father had his surgery, it was Peanut who took the push against the wall from their mother. Lee was irrate, it was, after all her father, didn’t she count? She held firm to her conclusion that her father would live.
Lee was persistant. Peanut had relented on several occasions only to be bruised and scarred herself when Lee came back damaged.
Peanut wondered if Lee would survive and decided if Lee didn’t either would she.
What now? The saga continues......
Who will it be?
Where will it happen?
How will we know if it is safe?
How can we trust again? but more important than that, will we ever be that vulnerable again? If the pain returns, will we survive.
Are we doomed to always be on the outside looking in? Is it ever safe?
HURT Pain............ critical crisis ............ depression........ failure.
When a young man came into Peanut's life, it was like a blessing....... finally someone similar who loved to play and have fun and there was no fighting and no hitting....... only sweet times. You used to tease me when this song played......

.........and tease me even more when this song played and yes I had the moon in my eyes and he was a cancer.

Happy Birthday.......... July 12, 1955
Joys We Shared........... 1955-1992 TRW I love you still!!!
My gentle prince.... who played w/me as children.
R.I.P.
A refreshing thought has crossed my mind
I looked at you, we were two of a kind.
The part of you I loved was me
The reflection in my eyes was a he.
I knew from the first time I saw your face
You were the opposite, a man and you didn’t wear lace.
But in our love I came to know
I loved you at first and it did grow.
You left and went ahead of me
But the things I feel still make me free.
Now as I go through my life without you
It hurts to know and it makes me blue.
In our own way I guess we said our final good-by
But when I heard you’d left all I could do was cry.
(In 15 years you never once said 'I luv u' till the last time.)
Why did it happen, why did you have to go
It is my heartache and I’ll never know.
But even though you’ve left this world
You gave me much, more precious than gold.
We lived and we loved and we’d left each other before
But this time you’ve left and there will be no more.
So good-by my love you were my treat
When I leave this world I’m sure we’ll meet.
On the other side maybe it is much better
Till then my love all I have is this letter.
